Renee, Laurieann and Maggie:
I met your Dad, as you well know, through my Dad, Milton.
It was business that brought the two of
them together but it was their friendship and admiration for each other that was so
apparent.
My Dad always talked about Larry and how much he enjoyed and loved being with him. Larry honored my Dad by being a pallbearer at his funeral a little over two years ago.
I know the two of them are looking down on all of us and I hope they are both getting into good trouble again together.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and I
was most fortunate to have met your Dad.
People are not made like your Dad and mine
anymore.......kind, warm, giving and compassionate.
Regards,
Jeff

Aunt Renee, Laurieann and Maggie:
We were very sadden to hear about Uncle Larry. I know the past several years have been very hard on all of you. At least knowing that he is in a better place should bring some comfort. He had such a wonderful life and many, many friends.
Your family and friendship has meant so much to us. Mom especially will miss him dearly. I know she wants to be there for you but know that in her heart she is! We will try to make at trip to Atlanta very soon and bring her with us. Hopefully this next visit we can see everybody, it's been too long. I think back to all our visits over the years especially when we were very young and how much fun we had. Uncle Larry was so funny. He and my dad were quite a pair. We have been blessed with a unique friendship and we will miss him. We will be in touch soon. Love, Julie and Robert

Mr. Garrett was one of the first people I met when I moved to Duluth in the early 90's. We had a post office box in the same area and somehow we managed to pick up our mail at the same time on many occasions. He always had a smile for me and a warm hello, even though we were strangers. What a special man he was! Who knew I would eventually work for him for 15 years at Formetco? I think the world of him and his accomplishments. He always remembered every one of us employees and offered a cheery hello and sweet smile every day. He is truly an inspiration to all who have had the honor to know him. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
For Renee, Maggie and Laurieann and their families, I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words that can console your broken hearts, I know, but just know that all your friends are here for you if you need us and we all love you, as we loved Larry. He was a wonderful person, never to be forgotten.

We had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Mr. Garrett on numerous occasions in the last few years. He was an extraordinary man of vision and a true pioneer. He honored us with having faith in our vision and supported us as a true mentor, friend and partner. Even though our encounters with him were recent and infrequent; he had a profound and lasting impact on all of us here at BillboardPlanet, individually and as a team. We shall always remember his level of energy, commitments, happiness, care and love that he demonstrated towards us, his friends, family and people around him. He will be surely missed, but his memory for all of us will be eternal.
We convey our love and deepest sympathy and condolences to Mrs. Garrett and his dear family and all friends that undoubtedly were touched by this great man.
With warm loving greetings,

Larry and Renee Garrett made others feel important. This is a blessing to all who have known them. As a person who was not a member of their family nor their business, I have been blessed over and over by the kind gestures, the appreciation, and the support given by these two on many occasions. I doubt I am alone in that respect. I have often wondered if Larry knew the impact he had on my life. It was always great fun to talk to Renee and Larry. Their smiles, laughter and that special glint in their eye made every meeting a special one. Over the years, client turned into friendship. I will miss hearing Larry answer the phone...calling for Renee...and being so warm. In my life I see lots of love displayed. There has never been more than that shared by Larry...to his family, his company, his employees and most of all Renee. I am truly blessed. I am truly important for I have known Larry, Renee and the girls. Thank you. You were more to me that I deserved.

For all of us who loved Larry and his sincere enjoyment of life, we must truly rejoice that he is no longer suffering and is now in a better place. He is greeting the angels in heaven with the phrase "Well, hello, beautiful" - a phrase that he would so often use. Larry was a man among men and a true inspiration to me. His devoted loyalty to his family and friends will live as an example to all of us who knew him. May God bless and keep Renee and the family until such time as they may join such a wonderful man in heaven.

From: Amy Kimball 3/19/2009 5:48:21 PM
Larry Garrett was a kind, generous, and loving man. He not only gave his money to those in need, but more importantly he gave his time and his love. He took a 14 year old boy that was dating his daughter and through love, patience and yes even money to fix a broken car or two, taught him about the value of a good name. He taught him about life, about the value of fine wine and a fine woman. He taught that boy how to succeed in business and how to treat everyone fairly. He coached him and nurtured him and yes probably yelled a time or two. That boy grew up and became my husband. Larry’s legacy is not only about the donations or his companies…it is in the lives that he touched, the values and love that he showed to my husband and I know many others. His legacy will continue through generations who were schooled under him as they pass those same values and ethics to their children for generations to come. To Renee and the girls please know you are in my hearts and prayers and thank you for sharing him with us.

It is truly difficult for me to put in words the love and admiration I will always hold on my heart for Larry. Larry was my mentor and my inspiration. To please him was one of my greatest joys in life. There are those rare people in life that can impart their knowledge and experience with true compassion and with tough love when needed. He was one of those people. Larry always made me feel special. Of course, as time went on I realized that he made a lot of people feel special and this served to encourage me strive to follow his example for living my life. This was because Larry took great joy in helping people who he thought were special and deserving. Larry was like a little puppy at times, with his enthusiasm for life and his extreme loyalty. Yes, I know that Larry has gone on to a better place with our Father. But, forgive me Lord, but I am just a little bit jealous that I will have to wait a few more years to see Larry again. Please take good care of him so when my time comes that he can take me under his wings again. But this time his wings will truly be those of an angel.

To the family, friends, and employees of Mr. Garrett,
My heart was deeply sorrowed when it was announced to me that Mr. Garrett was no longer with us.I learned throughout life that it is easy to say good bye but simultaneously hard to let go. Mr. Garrett lived a long life. He accomplished things that the average person could only dream about. His innovations gave those such as Robbie Franklin and Matt Xander the ability to make a difference in the business structure of Formetco. I want to thank Mr. Garrett and the entire Formetco Family for all of the blessings that were bestowed upon my family and I during my time of my employment with this fine establishment.

My family owes allot to Larry Garrett. It was he who convinced me to move my family to Georgia in order to take on a larger role at Formetco. His respect and sincerity for the well being of my wife and daughter during our move is what made me realize this was a decision I would never regret. He was right other than I regret that I was not able to work along side of him as others have had to opportunity to do so. I am in awe of his accomplishments, admire his relationships with his friends, and most importantly view his commitment to his family as an inspirational example for us all to follow. I am proud to say I am a member of his extended family at Formetco and thankful I had an opportunity to know such a great man.

To the Family of a beloved man, husband, father and grandfather. I do not know the whole family as much as others, but those that I do know are a glimmer of the man that made them so. Maggie, Meghan, Jenny and Julie, I love you and am here for you when ever you need me. I am sorry for your loss and understand very clearly the pain and ache that accompanies the death of a loved father and grandfather. Please know that you are loved and have a blessed family...
The things that are important to remember are Not how did he die, but how did he live?
Not what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.
Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed?
But had he befriended those really in need?
Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when he passed away.
I believe his legacy speaks for its self.

Each of the few times I had the pleasure of being around Mr. Garrett, he was so friendly and so much fun. Our first encounter was at Maggie's Derby Party, and her dad was laughingly goading me to place a bet. My horse lost, but I got a good memory. I pray that you will be comforted by the many wonderful memories you have of a fantastic husband, father, and grandfather.

Some of my earliest memories of Larry were when he would take me trick or treating as a young boy every Halloween. Although he didn't always have my shoes on the right feet it was a special memory. I recall summers on his houseboat "The Steel Derby" and Christmas Eves spent with all of the Garrett family. Eventually Larry took me under his wing at Formetco and gave my family some wonderful opportunities.
Life at Formetco without Larry Garrett will be very sad. He was a wonderful man, a loving father and grandfather, devoted husband and a great uncle. I will truly cherish the memories of Larry. His memory and legacy will live on.
Larry, I hope you are sipping a glass of Silver Oak in heaven!

I am greatly saddened with the passing of our icon. Mr. Garrett was a man of intellect, humor and love. I will miss his smile and wit. He beamed whenever he spoke of his family members - both personal and business. Behind those sparkling eyes, his mind was always going 100 miles an hour. Mr. Garrett can never be replaced but like his good wine, can be savored. To Renee and the girls, please remember the good times, the laughter and his love. He lived and departed on his terms. We have not known Larry for long compared to others who know him. However, during the last couple of years we have seen the way Larry used the gifts God gave him to help those in need of it most. Lary was a man who truly walked with the Lord by putting the talents and resources given to him to great use fo his fellow man. May he remain a shining example for all who become successful in this life that they may too apply God's gifts to great affect for mankind. Our sincerest condolences to his wife Renee and his two daughters. I know you will miss him. Certainly you must know he is working on your behalf even now as he did continuously in this life. There are not sufficient words to express the impact that Larry and Renee have had on my life. His passing from this world leaves a deep void. I am happy to know that his suffering is over and his new life has begun. His was a life well lived.
I am certain that he will hear the Lord say "Well done, Good and faithful servant." Larry truly was a Success.
SUCCESS by Ralph Waldo Emmerson
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived;
This is to have succeeded.

I first met Larry more than twenty years ago when I was asked to defend Formetco in a lawsuit filed down in Florida. As a young attorney I was as nervous as I could be. But Larry wasn’t worried. He assured me that Formetco’s product, which was alleged to be defective, was the best in the industry and that the facts would support us. I learned two important lessons on that case. First, Larry was a man of his word. Formetco’s product was proven to have no defect and we won the case. And second, treat your fellow man with respect, even your adversary. In our face-to-face meeting with the man who claimed our product was defective, Larry showed none of the disdain and anger he must have felt towards the man who was attacking the company Larry started from scratch and built into one of the top manufacturers in the outdoor advertising industry.
I feel great sorrow at Larry’s passing but my spirits are lifted in knowing that his battles are now over and that his wisdom, compassion, and love of family will continue to influence me and the many others who were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to become one of Larry’s friends.

I will always remember Larry's quick smile and keen intellect that could grasp abstract ideas and translate them to action. He was a tremendous positive influence on his family, employees and friends. I will miss his friendship and leadership. You fought the good fight, Larry, God rest your soul.

Today the world is a lesser place without Larry Garrett in it. His death is tragic and heartbreaking to all who were privileged enough to know him.
Words cannot express how deeply sorry the entire Formetco family is about the loss of Larry. On a personal level it is difficult to find the words to convey my appreciation for all that Larry has provided me, but I am forever grateful to him for the many kindnesses he has shown throughout his long and celebrated life.
